Acoustics Bowers & Wilkins 607 S3 Oak

Bowers & Wilkins&607 S3 is equipped with a tweeter with a patented double damped Decoupled Double Dome cone made of aluminum. There is a tube at the back of the tweeter that effectively dampens sound waves from the back of its dome. Placing the tweeter close to the top edge of the speaker's front panel reduced the diffraction of sound waves, and, as a result, made the sound more open and transparent. The tweeter gets a new mounting plate for improved dispersion and a more open tweeter grille design taken from B&W's recently introduced 800 Signature Series.

The placement of the tweeter is unusually high, almost below the top edge of the front panel. This was done in order to obtain a uniform radiation pattern without re-reflection and at the same time not to place the tweeter in a separate box. The name of the acoustic series is printed on the elegant metal frame of the tweeter's protective mesh. Another big change to the S3 600 series line is a reimagined cabinet design that places the tweeter and main speakers closer together with crossed over-rings designed to improve imaging and driver integration. The internal bracing of each cabinet has also been improved by updating the wood used. The speaker terminals on the rear of each speaker are from the Bowers&Wilkins 700 S3 series, and the rear-mounted bass ports are also 700 series specification.

The woofer in the & Bowers & Wilkins 607 S3 speakers is no less interesting. It has a diameter of 130 mm and is equipped with another proprietary development of this British company - the Continuum diffuser. This diffuser is made of fabric material, but the exact technology for its production is B&W know-how and is kept secret. The Continuum diffuser has high rigidity and is very light, therefore it is able to move with large amplitude and speed without parasitic vibrations. The speakers are connected to a new split filter made from audiophile-grade components that have very low distortion. The speaker is equipped with a Flow Port bass reflex with a reduced level of acoustic noise, located on the rear panel. Bowers & Wilkins 607 S3 can be used in compact stereo systems or in the rear channels of a home theater built on acoustics in this series.
