Sonance's history began in 1982, when Sonance co-founders Scott Struders and Jeff Spencer asked a client to pinpoint the exact location on her kitchen wall where she wanted a speaker. The first blow of the hammer shook the entire audio and architectural industry, and its echoes are heard to this day.

The company did something that no one in the audio industry had ever tried to do: moved the speakers from the floor or shelf to the wall! The location of the speakers was limited, part of the wall or ceiling of the room, and represented a field of activity for the architect or designer.
