The new Marantz CD5005 Black CD player has several cardinal differences from the previous model with the CD5004 index. So, the novelty received a more advanced CS4398 DAC from Cirrus Logic, which, with proper strapping, can provide decent sound quality. The reliable transport mechanism CJDKT690 was also borrowed from the more expensive CD6005 player. The device is equipped with a new improved remote control RC002PMCD.

The Marantz CD5005 Black can play CD and CD-R/RW discs, as well as compressed MP3 and WMA files. The output analog stages, as usual, are made on proprietary hyperdynamic HDAM modules of the SA2 version. The headphone amplifier is made entirely on discrete elements. It should be noted the presence of the Audio EX function, which improves the sound quality by turning off the digital outputs and the display.

Being an entry-level device, the novelty cannot boast of many different interfaces. The analog signal is taken from a pair of gold-plated RCA connectors, a balanced connection is not provided in the device. There is also a pair of digital outputs - optical and coaxial.
