Acoustics of the central channel Focal Chora Center

Chora Center is a speaker system from the new Chora series for the center channel of a home theater. Replacing the renowned Chorus series, the new Chora embodies French craftsmanship and is a new entry into the world of Hi-Fi.

The development and production of the components of the new Chora series is carried out at Focal's facilities in Saint-Étienne, where the company's products have been manufactured for the past 40 years.

The midrange and woofers in the Chora speakers have been given brand new cones that provide "instant sound and visual appeal," according to the developers. They are made of Slatefiber, designed and manufactured by Focal.

The exclusive Slatefiber technology developed by Focal is a driver membrane in the form of a three-layer sandwich construction, in which a layer of non-woven carbon fiber with a special treatment is sandwiched between two layers of thermoplastic polymer. In their quest for excellence, Focal engineers chose to use non-woven carbon fibers oriented in the same direction to achieve high rigidity and effective damping.

Manufactured in the Focal workshops using state-of-the-art industrial machinery, the membrane has a slate effect providing excellent damping, high stiffness and extreme lightness - the three main "pillars" of a driver membrane.

For high-quality sound in the high-frequency range, the Chora acoustics have a branded tweeter with an inverted dome made of aluminum-magnesium alloy.

The suspension that connects the dome to the base of the tweeter uses a foam material called Poron. It is identical to the suspension of the famous Utopia beryllium tweeter and reduces distortion by a third in the range from 2000 Hz to 3000 Hz, where the ear is most sensitive to distortion. The depth of stage and the very low directivity of the inverted dome allow silky high frequencies to be enjoyed anywhere in the listening space.
