Acoustic system Sonus Faber OLYMPICA II
Price per couple
Sonus Faber OLYMPICA II - 3-way (one driver for each lane). The 29XTR2 29mm tweeter is based on the synthesis of dome tweeter and DAD (Damped Apex Dome) ring tweeter technologies. The metal arc above the tweeter contains a damping pad on the reverse side, which touches the highest point of the tweeter dome, thereby bringing the tweeter operation mode closer to the ring version and at the same time reducing parasitic resonances of the dome itself. Linear movement of the membrane is provided by a new neodymium magnetic system. The 150mm M15XTR midrange driver also delivers linear dynamics thanks to its three-ring Kellogg/Goeller magnet system. The speaker cone is made from a blend of paper, kapok, kenaf and other natural fibers by air drying without pressing. For better damping of the internal resonances of the diffuser, it is coated with a viscous transparent composition. The voice coil is wound with CCAW copper-plated aluminum wire, which combines low resistance with low weight. The W18XTR woofer is the successor to the driver used in the Aida speakers. The speaker cone is a sandwich of durable syntactic foam and treated paper. The long-stroke eddy current controlled magnet system ensures a high and linear speaker response. The speaker crossover is optimized for amplitude and phase response.
The case of the Sonus Faber OLYMPICA II system is assembled from natural walnut wood. The company has already used the lyre shape more than once in its lines, but in our case it is an asymmetric lyre. Asymmetry helps to deal with internal resonances and re-reflections of sound from the walls of the speaker. Asymmetry is played in a very interesting way. On one side of the case, a vertical slot is left in the entire height of the column. The slot smoothly and almost imperceptibly goes inward along the wall, and the visible strip of the inner wall is trimmed with a nice metal grill. This slot plays the role of a phase inverter port. By the way, since the case is not symmetrical, the stereo pair is assembled from mirrored speakers. The front panel, the back of the speaker and the top cover of the acoustics are trimmed with black genuine leather. Grills made of rubber threads in a fabric braid are more decorative in nature and are not able to protect the speakers from mechanical stress.
