Headphones ZMF Eikon African Padauk Red
The Eikon headphones are almost twins with the Atticus model, the differences are in the diaphragm - the Atticus has it plastic, made of TPE elastomer. The earcups are huge - 108mm in diameter! The xVibro foam pads "eat" those sizes down to a 75mm high, 52mm wide oval ear hole.
Closed (with ventilation ports) full-size headphones, the cups of which are carved from solid solid padauk wood (Padauk). This material is considered to be very musical, the masters of the production of "live" instruments, not constrained by the budget, are well aware of this. As well as the fact that the use of this red with an interesting grain of wood gives everything where it is used a respectable, collectible look. In addition, you can be sure that the padauk, surviving in the conditions of arid Africa, as part of a noble product, will serve for a long time without losing its properties.
Driver - dynamic type with a 50 mm diaphragm. The material from which the diaphragm is made - biocellulose, has proven itself well and is used by leading headphone manufacturers. Biocellulose is loved for its incredibly low distortion, close to linear frequency response, and sound free from sibilants and hash effects.
The ear pads are bevelled for a perfect fit. As a result, a chamber with a high level of sound insulation is created for the ear.
It would seem that such large headphones, and even weighing under 600 g, should tire even with short listening sessions. But ZMF would not be ZMF if it had not brought its product to a high technical level, and in terms of comfort - to perfection. Properly distributed weight of the headphones, soft headband and luxurious ear pads, the process of finding ears in them in other words, how to “drown” and “bask”, cannot be characterized.
The “plus cable” option (which Eikon has is removable, symmetrical connection using a four-pin mini-XLR connector) adds weight to the whole structure, but does not diminish the feeling of comfort.
Compared to the Atticus, the Eikon membrane is capable of delivering a more dynamic and natural sound character while being more sensitive at the same 300 ohm impedance.
The brainchild of Zach Mehrbach films (ZMF) features a real tight bass, with excellent percussion ability, passing the baton to no less dense sub-bass.
The midrange section is as if created for a soulful human vocal - its accurate and not devoid of emotions reproduction.
The treble sounds clean, densely saturated with details. Climbing to the very top, they avoid excessive sharpness and do not crumble, do not break the continuity of the feed.
Eikon show very fast and deep sound with fast transitions. An imaginary stage at the ZMF Eikon, as for a closed model, with very impressive spatial characteristics.
In terms of their place in the product hierarchy and price, the headphones compete for entry-level flagship positions.
The external beauty and acoustic qualities of the Eikon model are worth each other and the money that is asked for them.
