The Grado Prestige Black 3 uses a three piece OTL cantilever with a special Grado diamond mounted on a brass bushing.

Grado OTL technology, or optimized transmission line, ensures perfect signal transmission from the LP surface to the system generator. This technology eliminates unwanted resonances and reduces distortion while preserving the fundamental and harmonic frequencies of the music. It also helps to minimize the noise generated by the cartridge motor system.

The Grado OTL stylus/console quietens the sound of the recording, improves the height, width and depth of the soundstage, and provides more detail than previously possible.

The Prestige Black 3 is hand-assembled by the Grado team in Brooklyn, and some assemblers have over 25 years of experience. With the recent development of the highly acclaimed Lineage series cartridges, Grado has been able to acquire new technologies and introduce new techniques into the Prestige Black 3.

This updated series of cartridges offers superior tonal balance, dynamics and realism for the best reproduction of vocals and instruments. The Grado coil winding technique, using ultra-high purity copper wire, which was perfected during the development of the Lineage series, allowed the circuitry to achieve unison between the four coils in each phono stage. This ensures a precise balance between channels and an accurate stereo image.

Like all Grado phono cartridges, the Prestige Black 3 is powered by a dual magnet system that optimizes the balance between stereo channels. All internal parts of the magnetic circuit are maintained to very high tolerances, producing the desired stereo image. Grado's patented Flux-Bridger design allows the Prestige Black 3 to have one of the most inefficient moving mass generation systems while maintaining excellent balance across the entire frequency range.

Epoch's development of the Lineage series gave Grado the experience of using an outer case as a damping device. This resulted in a process that takes the load off the chassis and dissipates unwanted energy and resonant frequencies, allowing the desired signal to propagate freely.
