Cartridge Ortofon 2M Red

The Ortofon 2M-Red moving magnet pickup is available in an updated series of cartridges from the company, models in which differ in body color. And the name 2M itself just denotes the type of pickup - MM. The Danish bureau Møller Jensen Design, also responsible for the design of the top MC Jubilee and Kontrapunkt heads, took part in the development of these models.

The design of these pickups uses the company's proprietary development - magnets with split pole pieces. This gives the Ortofon 2M-Red the same flat frequency response as the more expensive MC-type models. The head has an elliptical stylus with precision ground for precise tracking, excellent sound detail and minimal record wear when listening to music.

Ortofon 2M-Red develops an audio signal with an amplitude of up to 5.5 mV at the output, which ensures good compatibility with various types of phono stages. The downforce range for this model is in the range of 1.6 to 2 grams, and its recommended value is 1.8 grams. A tracking angle of 20 degrees is typical for most tonearms, making it easy to tune the cartridge.

All electrical parameters of the pickup are within standard values, so in most cases the input impedance adjustment of the phono stage will not be required. The weight of the head, the body of which is made of high-quality anti-resonant translucent plastic, is 7.2 grams and the value of dynamic compliance is 20 µm/mN.

The Ortofon 2M-Red delivers a very rich and dynamic sound, perfect for listening to today's electronic music. An extended frequency range and a minimum level of intrinsic noise and distortion make listening to vinyl records with Ortofon 2M-Red a real pleasure.
