Стерео усилитель А-класса SMSL VMV A1 Black
A-class stereo amplifier SMSL VMV A1 Black is an integrated amplifier in classic black color, built on a fully analog circuit (class “A”). It is distinguished by a symbiosis of expressive design, solid assembly and pure analytical sound. It has a headphone amplifier on board. Together with the DAC, the D1se can form a stylish audiophile stack.
The Chinese brand SMSL introduced the A1 power amplifier operating in class A in the VMV line of electronic components. Prior to this, this series had only an external DAC D1, introduced in 2018. The VMV A1 power amplifier implements a classic field-effect transistor amplification circuit, when the transistor always operates in the linear region of its characteristic, which ensures a minimum level of distortion. The component is equipped with a volume control implemented on the Burr Brown PGA2311 chip from Texas Instruments, which allows it to be used as a headphone amplifier. Do not be confused by the manufacturer's indicated power of 2 x 2 W - firstly, this figure is indicated when working on a load of 32 ohms, that is, on headphones, which is more than enough. Secondly, according to the manufacturer, the power of the SMSL VMV A1 amplifier will be enough to confidently control a wide range of bookshelf acoustics. When operating on a load with a resistance of 4 ohms, the amplifier develops 15 watts, and when the impedance is doubled, the output power will be 10 watts.
The body of the device was made of aluminum with a matte finish, painted in a dark conservative shade. On the front panel there is a neat LCD-display, which received the option of adjusting the brightness. It is the screen, combined with a rounded glass insert, that somewhat refreshes the overall strict design of the product. In addition to the screen, the front panel has two physical keys and a proprietary volume wheel without an encoder. By the way, the volume control is carried out accurately and smoothly, because the dedicated PGA2311 chip is responsible for it. The set of connection interfaces, in turn, is represented by a linear RCA input, a headphone output, as well as high-quality acoustic terminals that “understand” wires both with and without banana connectors. There is also a connector for supplying a power cable, which will allow over time to replace the complete version with a more audiophile one.
Thanks to an audio path made up of exceptionally high-quality components (such as a Noratel toroidal transformer), the SMSL VMV A1 delivers a balanced sound with natural timbres that gravitates toward reference performance. This means that the sound picture of the device eliminates excessive peaks and dips in the frequency response, excessive temperature drift of the tonal range to “warm” or “cold”, or implausible construction of the stage space. As for the output power indicators, the situation here is somewhat unusual, because we are not dealing with a mass digital amplifier with “piece” watts, but a completely analog device that produces an honest 10 x 2 W into a 4 ohm load. It is noteworthy that this power is quite enough for scoring even spacious living quarters. The audio path temperature control option (°C shown on the display) completes the story of the audio potential of the device, allowing you to achieve even more correct sound.
