Studio microphone AKG C214
Budget version of the legendary flagship С 414
The new AKG C 214 is designed as a budget alternative to the Hi-End C 414 series of microphones popular with artists, record labels and broadcast studios. Instead of the dual capsule system used in the C 414 series, the C 214 microphones use a single capsule system and AKG's patented Back-Plate technology.
This combination allowed us to keep the sound closest to the sound quality of the C 414. The capsule is designed in such a way as to minimize the risk of shorting the membrane, and the membrane itself is reliably isolated from the inside from contact with the rear electrode. The membrane grille has a decorative gilded coating on the outside in the best traditions of the 414th series. The C214 reliably protects against the occurrence of interference with an all-metal case with an antiscratch coating. The microphone comes with a windscreen, a holder and a branded metal carrying case.
Switches
C214 has two switches on the case:
sensitivity switch. Useful when recording especially loud instruments. Reduces sensitivity by 20 db and removes distortion.
low pass filter. Corrects the so-called “proximity effect” that occurs when recording a sound source closer than 20 cm, and also reduces distortion in the low frequency range, which is usually caused by vibrations or gusts of wind.
workhorse
Like its legendary C414 prototype, the C214 feels great in high SPL environments, picking up sound from guitar cabinets without any problems, and also does a good job of recording voice and orchestral instruments, having enough sensitivity for this. At the same time, the C214 better fulfills the complex dynamics of low-frequency wind instruments, but copes worse with a strong attack of high-frequency energy, adding a characteristic “roughness” to the sound, for example, of a violin or soprano voice.
The C214 microphone is the ideal choice for those who want to have the equivalent of the real AKG 414 at a lower price.
