For many applications, the speed of digital communication is important. Most obviously, "speed" means transferring large files as quickly as possible, or transferring enough data for HD video. For USB audio (and for HDMI audio), "speed" is critical, not because of how fast, but because timing relationships in the digital stream are critical to reconstructing the analog waveform that brings information, music, and joy to the listeners. Temporary corruption (jitter) of this information in the data packet makes the sound small and flat rather than three-dimensional, harsh and foggy rather than smooth and clear.

Peculiarities:

• Semi-solid concentric conductors with a silver content of 0.5%. Semi-solid conductors significantly reduce wire interaction distortion and reduce jitter. Solid silver plated conductors are great for very high frequency applications such as USB audio and video. These signals, having such a high frequency, propagate almost exclusively along the surface of the conductor. Since the surface is made of high purity silver, the performance is very close to that of 100% silver cable, but the price is much closer to solid copper cable. This is an incredibly economical way to produce very high quality USB cables.
• Rigid foam insulation. Hard Cell Foam (HCF) insulation provides the critical geometry of the signal pair. Any solid material adjacent to a conductor is actually part of an imperfect circuit. Wire insulation and circuit board materials absorb energy. Some of this energy is stored and then released as distortion. Hard-Cell foam insulation is similar to the polyethylene foam used in our more affordable Bridges & Falls cables and contains nitrogen to create air pockets. Because nitrogen (like air) does not absorb energy and therefore does not release energy into or out of the conductor, distortion is reduced. In addition, the rigidity of the material allows the cable conductors to maintain a stable ratio throughout the length of the cable, providing a stable impedance pattern and further minimizing distortion.
