"All Blues" is a jazz composition by Miles Davis that first appeared on the influential 1959 album Kind of Blue. It is a twelve bar blues. A distinctive feature of the piece is the bass line, which is repeated throughout the piece, except for a few occasions. In addition, there is a harmonically similar vamp. It was originally an instrumental piece, but lyrics were later added by Oscar Brown Jr.
Miles Davis is an American jazz trumpeter and band leader who had a significant impact on the development of music in the 20th century. Davis was at the origin of many styles and trends in jazz, such as modal jazz, cool jazz and fusion. Nearly 50 years of Davis' work have defined the sound of jazz for three generations of listeners. Davis' recordings trace the development of modern jazz from bebop in the late 1940s to modern experimental trends. Unlike many other jazzmen, Davis was never limited to any one jazz style. Noting the breadth of interests and the versatility of his talent, Duke Ellington compared Davis to Picasso.
