SME Model 20/3 turntable
Availability check
This finely crafted turning table is built to the same exacting standard and incorporates many of the design elements created for the 20/12. Massive construction, extensional damping of the main surfaces and absence of vibration from moving parts provide exceptional detail, resolution and low performance.
In the turntable, extraneous vibration problems must be considered. They come from numerous sources, including airborne and structural vibration from loudspeakers, groove modulation, stray electric fields, and mechanical imperfections in moving parts. In the Model 20/3, superior tool machining is linked to fundamental physics. The higher the mass and rigidity of the body, the less it will bend and vibrate; the duration of the vibration can be shortened by appropriate attenuation.
The Model 20/3 weighs about 28.6 kg (63 lb), which is significant in relation to its size because it's density. For example, the same weight of metal, distributed over a sufficiently large area, would be aluminum foil! Under chassis measures only 440mm (17 5/16") by 350mm (13 ¾") but weighs 11kg (24lbs). Its 16mm (5/8") thickness resists bending at low frequencies, while high frequency resonance is attenuated through effective extensional damping.
