Takstar HA-101 is a portable headphone amplifier with an ultra-concise design. It features balanced sound, sufficient power, a generous package (including a storage case) and an affordable price.

At the first acquaintance with HA-101, it seems that the product comes from the EU, which in fact is not. The reason for this impression can be its strict design, which excludes all sorts of decor, which is definitely a plus for a special target audience of the product. We were pleased with the assembly of the device: its body is made of aluminum alloy, anodized to a dark matte shade; the quality of fitting parts is predictably high. The control scheme is represented by only two manipulators: an additional bass activator and a volume control wheel acting in parallel with the “switch” of the amplifier. A set of interfaces (in turn) is represented by a micro-USB port for recharging the battery or powering it from the mains; 3.5mm headphone audio jack, as well as 3.5 line jack for connecting to an audio source. By the way, all the necessary switching is provided in the package.

The amplifying path is based on 0PA1612 and LME49600 chips, supplemented with capacious capacitors and a low-noise transformer. It is noteworthy that the total background noise of the amplifying circuit is almost exemplary for this class of devices -97 dBV, which, in combination with a moderate output impedance, allows the HA-101 to organically cooperate not only with many full-size headphone models, but also with sensitive IEMs. But the maximum output current is 1V (THD≤1% 1KHz RL: 16Ω), which is also pretty good. The entire path is powered by a moderately powerful 880 mAh battery, which provides up to 12 hours of battery life at medium volume.

The main task of Takstar HA-101 is to amplify the input audio signal without significant changes in the sound signature of the source of this signal. As a result, the Takstar engineers preferred a neutral sound signature for their creation, which will allow the listener to fully appreciate the authentic sound of their favorite smartphone/player paired with high-impedance headphones. However, the overall sound of the bundle can be somewhat changed: to do this, you need to activate the bass boost mode, which will add softness to the overall sound picture, and mid-bass areas (80 Hz) - weight and energy.
